WELCOME TO THE PHONE SAMPLE PROJECT

the purpose of the phone sample project is to collect audio samples by phone
for use in music. then when enough samples have been collected, they will be
released to the world in the public domain. you can participate in this project
by calling the phone sample project's 1-800 number and leaving a message.
go wild! you could talk about how your day went, read some poetry you wrote,
make goofy noizes, anything. be creative. nothing is too far out there, and i'm
curious to see what people have to offer.

can i contribute multiple times?

absolutely.

who are you?

i am sharp hall, an electronic musician, who's passionate about free (as in
freedom) software and free (as in freedom) music.

why are you doing this?

i'm working on a new album, and i need samples to include. i also figure there
are other musicians out there who would like them as well. however, this isn't
only for music. while music is the motivation for me, it might be interesting
for regular people to listen to the raw unedited samples. getting the general
public to actively create instead of just being passive consumers of media
is a plus also, even if it is just an anonymous contribution. (...which brings
us to our next question...)

is it anonymous?

anything you say after the beep when you call and make your contribution will
be released in full, with any identifying information you chose to leave
included. you are not required to give any information about yourself at all,
however i must make this disclamer, as it is only fair: when you call, your
caller id information will be logged. your caller id WILL NOT be released to
the public, however i will have it on file. there's not really much I can do
to stop this; my phone provider keeps a non-deletable log of it that I can
access anyway. You should know that calls to 1-800 numbers are resistant to
caller id blocking (unless you are a 1337 phone phreak who knows how to spoof
your ANI or cause an ANI fail.) i can only ask that you trust that i'll do
everything in my power to keep this information as secret as i can. (hey, i'm
honest enough to tell you you're being logged and i can't do anything about it!)

when will you release the audio?

i can't say when i will release the audio, other than i'll release it when I
feel that this project has reached its peak, in terms of quality.

will you release ALL the audio?

i won't release any audio that i know to contain blatantly copied copyrighted
material.
